Keap is making important updates to how payment methods are handled — and it’s a great step toward stronger security for everyone using Keap and Memberium together.
Originally, it looked like all Memberium clients would need to update payment forms immediately. After working closely with Keap, here’s the clearest, most accurate guidance: only Keap Pay users need to switch shortcodes right now.
For anyone using Stripe, Authorize.net, or another non-Keap Pay processor, the current shortcode remains required — and the new shortcode won’t work (yet).
What Needs to Happen Right Now
Using Keap Pay?
The new shortcode is required now: [memb_add_paymentmethod]. Available in Memberium 4.0+
Using Stripe, Authorize.net, or another non-Keap Pay processor?
Continue using the current shortcode: [memb_add_creditcard]. The new form won’t work with these processors right now.
Looking ahead: Based on Keap’s roadmap, eventually all payment processors will require the new form. This change is happening in phases, but it’s important to be aware and plan ahead.
Why This Is Happening
Keap is upgrading how payment information is handled to meet newer security standards.
With these changes, Keap provides a form that Memberium embeds. This approach keeps sensitive data fully protected but at the same time limits us from customizing how the form looks and functions (Keap controls it entirely).
In simple terms:
✔ The card information never touches Memberium (which is the same as always)
✔ It goes straight to Keap or your payment processor
✔ Same protection for both you and your customers
The Two Shortcodes Explained
Current Shortcode: [memb_add_creditcard]
- What it does: Displays a payment form directly on your site.
- Customization: Full control over form design, layout, and styling.
- How it works: Securely sends payment info straight from your site to Keap, without storing any data in Memberium.
- Who needs it: Required today for Stripe, Authorize.net, and any non-Keap Pay processors.
New Shortcode: [memb_add_paymentmethod]
- What it does: Embeds Keap’s hosted payment form directly into your site.
- Customization: Fully controlled by Keap — no customization options for design, layout, or branding.
- How it works: Payment info is entered directly into Keap’s system. Memberium has no access to submitted data or any error messages if payments fail.
- Who needs it: Required today for Keap Pay users. Eventually, all processors will require this form.
What’s Coming Next?
According to Keap’s published roadmap (full details here):
- Current phase: Keap Pay requires the new form right now.
- Next phase: Stripe will begin transitioning to this new system (exact dates TBD).
- Final phase: Authorize.net and all other processors will follow (timeline TBD).
